Rajapuri jetty boats to Janjira Fort have been suspended since the SW monsoon arrival (Jun 7-12), the Arabian Sea swell holds 4-5m at the harbour mouth, Murud beach's 6km strip is red-flagged daily with drowning fatalities recorded every July, and the 165km NH-66 corridor from Mumbai floods at Apta and Pen-Roha. Datta Mandir's 168-step climb is slippery and unsafe. The fort itself sits empty — even the ASI guards run skeleton staffing. Heritage stays at Murud close or run at 10% occupancy.
The July story
No July Murud visit is operationally possible. The 22-nawab Siddi fort — never breached by Marathas, Portuguese or British — is inaccessible by water. If you're committed to Konkan in July: redirect to Amboli (monsoon waterfalls peak — Hiranyakeshi, Nangarta, Shirgaonkar Falls roaring) or Kolad (Kundalika rafting on dam release water). Plan the Murud trip for October-February. Refuse private fisherman boats — every monsoon brings stories of drownings on the Janjira route. If you must be in Mumbai in July: stay in the city. The Mumbai-Murud NH-66 drive itself is unsafe with Apta-Pen-Roha flooding. The Murud experience needs the Arabian Sea calm: October at earliest, with November-February as the absolute window. Set a calendar reminder. Don't test the monsoon.
