Kheerganga trek closes within weeks, so book now if that's your draw
November Kasol is the long exhale after autumn peak. Temperatures drop sharply: 2-14°C. The crowds thin by the week — early November still has October's tail, but by the 20th the village is half-empty. Cafes start reducing hours or closing for winter. Kheerganga becomes a cold-weather proposition: nighttime temperatures at the campsite drop below zero, and most casual trekkers stop coming. The autumn colour is gone, replaced by bare branches on deciduous trees while the pines stay dark green. The Parvati River is at its lowest and quietest. Days are short — sun sets behind the valley walls by 5 PM.
The November story
November is Kasol for people who know exactly what they want: cold mountain silence at falling prices. Room rates drop weekly: ₹600-1,000 by mid-month. The cafes that stay open have a winter-community feel — the same 30 backpackers rotating between Moon Dance and Evergreen, everyone recognising each other. The river at low flow reveals its boulder garden — you can walk down to the water and sit on rocks that are submerged the rest of the year. The stars are the best of any month: cold air, no moisture, no light pollution, the Milky Way visible to the naked eye. Kheerganga in November is for committed trekkers only — you need a proper sleeping bag and the campsite has maybe 10 people, but the hot springs in sub-zero air are extraordinary. Malana closes to casual visitors as the trail gets icy. The honest assessment: November is the month where Kasol transitions from destination to endurance test. If cold doesn't bother you and you like empty places, the first two weeks are superb. After the 20th, you're watching a village shut down.
