Peak Season
Kasol in October
Himachal Pradesh, India
October is Kasol's second peak and many regulars prefer it to April-May. Temperatures are 6-20°C — cool enough for a light jacket at night, warm enough for T-shirts at noon. Zero rain. Skies are deep blue and cloudless. Every cafe is open. Every trail is dry. The Parvati River has dropped to its most beautiful level: clear, fast, turquoise, with the boulders visible beneath the surface. The autumn colours arrive mid-month — the broadleaf trees in the valley turn gold and orange against evergreen pine. Kheerganga is in perfect condition. The backpacker scene is fully operational. This is Kasol running on all cylinders.
The October story
October Kasol has one quality that April doesn't: the light. Post-monsoon autumn light in the Parvati Valley is warm, low-angled, and makes everything look like a film still from 4-6 PM. The snow line has dropped on the surrounding peaks, so you get white summits above gold-and-green forest above turquoise river — the full colour stack. Moon Dance Cafe on an October evening, woodsmoke in the air, the river audible below, is the quintessential Kasol moment. Kheerganga trek in October means clear trail, 15°C days, star-filled nights at the campsite, and the hot springs at peak enjoyment — warm water in cool air with a visible Milky Way. Room rates match April peaks (₹1,200-2,500) but the crowd is more experienced travellers and fewer weekend warriors. The Dussehra festival in Kullu (usually October) adds cultural depth if you day-trip. Malana is accessible and the apple orchards on the way are heavy with fruit. The only downside: nights get cold fast after sunset, dropping to 5-6°C by 9 PM. Pack accordingly. Weekends are busy but not May-level crushing.
