Peak crowds
January is one of Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep)'s busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Island beach and diving peak Dec–Apr when sea conditions are best and weather is stable; monsoon closes water sports.
Havelock in January is the version every dive shop wants you to see. Underwater visibility holds at 28-30m through the month - peak conditions for Cinque Island, Johnny's Gorge, and the Wall sites. Air 24-30C, water 26-29C, no wetsuit required for most divers. Government and private ferries from Port Blair run 4-5 daily slots; Makruzz and ITT Majestic sell out 30 days ahead during peak. Beach 7 (Radhanagar) is busy 4-6pm for sunset - go pre-9am for an empty stretch. The two ATMs both go dry by Sunday afternoon. Carry 15,000 rupees from Port Blair; resorts mostly take card, but local shacks, scooter rentals, dive shops often cash-only.
