Most package itineraries focus on Radhanagar (sunset) and Elephant Beach (snorkel) — Kalapathar is the sunrise beach but requires 4:30-5am pickup, which most travelers skip.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Named for the black volcanic-rock outcrops contrasting white sand and turquoise water. Quieter than Radhanagar — walk south for secluded coves. Best at low tide for the rock-pool reveal. Arrive by 5am for full sunrise sequence.
2.5km trail through tropical forest from the Radhanagar Road trailhead (look for the small "Elephant Beach Trek" board at km marker). About 30 min one-way. Carry water + bug spray. End at the same snorkel zone the boats reach — but free + crowd-free for the first hour after sunrise.
Working fishing jetty at Beach No. 1 where local catamarans return with the night's catch — red snapper, kingfish, lobster, octopus. Auction starts ~5:30am, done by 7am. Local seafood restaurants like Anju Coco buy here. Photography respectful — ask first.

INFRASTRUCTURE · ON THE GROUND
Havelock has auto-rickshaws + scooter rentals (no taxi cartel like mainland). Auto-rickshaw jetty-Radhanagar: ₹200–300. Scooter rental: ₹500/day — the best way to explore Havelock. Bicycle rental: ₹150/day for Radhanagar + Kalapathar loops.
Resort check-ins are afternoon (2pm). Budget hut accommodations often flexible. Andaman is a Union Territory — no permits for Indians. Foreigners require Restricted Area Permit (RAP), issued on arrival at Port Blair airport for most nationalities, valid 30 days (free).
UPI works in Havelock on BSNL/Jio but signal is spotty. Dive operators + major resorts accept UPI. Beach shacks mixed — cash preferred. Port Blair ATMs are reliable; Havelock has 2 that are often out of cash. Carry ₹10,000+ per person for a 3-day Havelock stay.
Havelock has 2 ATMs (SBI + Co-op Bank) — often out of cash. Stock up at Port Blair before ferry. Scuba operators + major resorts accept cards as backup.
Beach shacks 8am–11pm. Jetty area shops 9am–9pm. Dive shops 7am–7pm (book morning for same-day dives).
Hindi + English dominant (Andaman has a mix of Bengali, Tamil, Telugu speakers from settlers). Islander hospitality staff speak English fluently. No language issues.
Jio and BSNL both work in Havelock but with frequent dropouts. 4G Jio reached Havelock in 2023; speeds moderate. Most resorts have Wi-Fi; speeds suitable for email, marginal for video calls. Not a remote-work destination.

Wild Orchid's casual all-day cafe — the breakfast + coffee outpost separate from the fine-dining Red Snapper. The Govind-Nagar mid-morning hangout for diving-trip-returners and slow-travel solo travelers.
Tip: Open from 7am — coffee plus pancakes between 7-9am before snorkel boats depart. Wifi available. Sit in the garden side for shade.

Walking-distance to Govind Nagar fishing jetty — sources catch daily from the 5:30am auction. The local-and-budget seafood option vs the resort-priced Red Snapper. Tip: Order whatever was on the morning auction (ask staff what came in). Cash + UPI. Open lunch + dinner.

Founded 2006 by Adil; now run with partners Niamh and head chef Narendra. Started as a beach-shack, shifted beachside under a huge tree canopy. The Havelock backpacker / diver default for breakfast + coffee + dinner. Ethically sourced ingredients.
Tip: Banoffee pie is the not-skip-this dessert. Arrive by 8:30am for breakfast before snorkel trips depart at 9. Wifi available.

Wild Orchid Resort's fine-dining restaurant — pick your dinner from the iced central display and relax on the outdoor deck while it's prepared. Casually sophisticated. Open all day. Non-resident reservations welcome.
Tip: Best for 7:30pm sundown dinner. Pair with the Emerald Gecko Bar pre-dinner. Vegetarian options exist but seafood is the draw.

Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7, 12km from jetty) by 7am — Asia's most beautiful beach per TIME 2004, still deserves the title. 1.5km curving white sand, turquoise water. Free beach, vendor stalls. Swimming safe 7am–5pm; lifeguards after 9am. 2 hours. Breakfast at Blue Sea Cafe or Red Snapper (near jetty).
Elephant Beach (access via short 30-min trek from Radhanagar entrance OR 15-min boat from Havelock Jetty) — shallower reef for snorkeling + banana boat + kayaking. Day-trip boats ₹800 round trip. Snorkeling ₹500 gear rental, scuba dive ₹3500–6000 (PADI licensed operators: Barefoot Scuba, Dive India, Blue Sea Divers). Lunch at beach shacks — grilled fish, maggi, coconut water.
Kalapathar Beach (8km east) — rocky-meets-sandy beach with black volcanic rocks, fewer crowds. Vijaynagar Beach on the east coast (peaceful, mangrove-edged). Either for afternoon rest.
Sunset back at Radhanagar (west-facing = spectacular sunsets). Dinner at Full Moon Cafe, Anju-Coco Resto Bar, or Fat Martin for Kerala-Tamil seafood. Beer allowed (Andaman has lower alcohol taxes than mainland). Bed early — island time.

Andaman monsoon (Jun–Sep) closes some beaches + ferry services can cancel — check day-before. Summer (Mar–May) is hot + humid but swimmable. Cyclones Nov–Dec rarely but possible. Indoor fallbacks limited — island living. If bad: stay at resort pool, scuba dive in protected coves (some dive operators run even in rougher weather), Elephant Beach reef (shallow, more protected).
