Mount Girnar in May
Gujarat, India
Skip — May breaks the entire Girnar climb experience.
May is Girnar's most dangerous month — peak Saurashtra heat at 26-41C, exposed basalt steps reaching surface temperatures of 55C+ in midday sun, and the 9,999-step climb effectively closed for tourist use. Heat-stroke and dehydration risk extreme.
The May story
There's no version of May at Girnar that delivers the climb the temple-cluster story deserves. Ropeway operates pre-9am (then afternoon cabin temperatures become brutal), foot-climb operationally open but unofficially closed for tourist safety. Saurashtra circuit locals defer Girnar visits until October. Climbers arriving in May for force-majeure reasons should use ropeway only, restrict to 7-9am windows, and treat AC of The Lotus Hotel as the day-base. The Datta peak (1,031m) summit story belongs to November-February cold pre-dawn starts. May is the month to wait through.

| February | 8.0/10 | February at Girnar: 14-29°C, dry 10,000-step climb conditions and clear summit views. Solid trekking window — heat escalates quickly by March. |
| March | 6.0/10 | March at Girnar: 18-34C. The 10,000-step climb is still on, but it's firmly a pre-4am start — by mid-morning the exposed sections are punishing. |

| December | 10.0/10 | December at Mount Girnar: 12–26°C, cool air for the 10,000-step climb. Ropeway cuts the pilgrimage short, summits clear all morning. |
