Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in April
Maharashtra, India
Go April — PEAK sighting probability, the safari-purist month; accept 42°C heat trade-off.
Peak crowds
April is one of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Summer (March-May) is best for tiger sightings — animals come to water. Park closed July-September monsoon. Weekend permits sell out first.
April at Tadoba is the absolute PEAK tiger-sighting month — 23-42°C, extreme Vidarbha heat forces all wildlife (tigers, leopards, wild dogs, sambar, chital, gaur, sloth bears) to congregate at the dwindling waterholes (Tadoba Lake, Telia Lake, Erai Lake). The 625 sq km core + buffer reserve becomes predictable: book a safari, find a waterhole, wait, and tigers appear. Sighting probability 80-95% on a 2-3 night stay. The Madhuri tigress lineage (Telia sisters area in Kolara zone) photographable in iconic waterhole approach shots. The trade-off: 42°C heat in jeep safari, especially the 2.30pm-6pm afternoon safari.
The April story
April is the safari-purist month — book core-zone safari ₹3,000-5,000/jeep via Tadoba official online portal 45-60 days ahead (April books out fastest). ₹500-1,500/person entry. 6 zones; Moharli, Kolara, Khutwanda most productive in April. Stay 2-3 nights at AC lodges: Bamboo Forest Safari Lodge, Tigers Heaven Resort, Svasara Jungle Lodge, Tiger Trails Tadoba Resort (₹6,000-18,000/night with 2-3 safaris). Don't skip AC. Plan dawn safaris (6.30am-10.30am cooler) over afternoon (2.30pm-6pm brutal). 4-6 safaris over 2-3 nights. Tiger sighting probability 80-95%. Iconic shot: tiger at waterhole at dawn or dusk. Madhuri tigress lineage continues — current alpha females photographable. Pre-monsoon dust storms common; safari jeeps open-top so face mask helpful in dust. Nagpur 150 km W gateway via NH-44 (4-5 hr drive); Chandrapur 45 km railhead. Avoid day-tripping in April heat — stay close to reserve. Hotels at year-peak. Photography: April waterhole-tiger shots are the iconic Tadoba portfolio. Cool morning safari light at 7am golden.
