Ratnagiri in April
Maharashtra, India
Go April only if Hapus is the goal — peak harvest, sightseeing dawn-only, beach off.
Peak crowds
April is one of Ratnagiri's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. April-May for mangoes. October-February for comfortable weather. It's never really crowded except Ganesh Chaturthi.
April is Ratnagiri's Alphonso peak month. Temperatures hold 26-35°C with humidity in the 70s, the Konkan-region Ratnagiri and Devgad Alphonso (Hapus) GI-tagged mango harvests are at full swing, orchards in Lanja, Pawas and Devgad-area open 6am-10am for farm visits and bulk purchases (₹1500-3500/dozen Devgad GI premium, ₹1200-2800 Ratnagiri taluka), and Mumbai mango-tour traffic peaks. Konkan Railway runs full schedule with Mumbai-Ratnagiri-Goa daily services. Sightseeing (Ratnadurg, Thibaw Palace) compresses to 6am-9am windows; beach time gone. Stays drop 20-25% on weekdays.
The April story
Drive 350km via NH-66 or Konkan Railway. Day plan: 5:30am Ratnadurg sunrise climb (45-minute round-trip from base, free entry), 6:30am-10am Hapus orchard tour (Lanja 35km south, Pawas 30km, Devgad farms 80km further south for premium GI), bulk-purchase peti ₹3000-7000 (3-4 dozen), retreat to AC stay by 11am, 4pm Thibaw Palace ₹15 entry (90 min), sunset Bhatye beach walk 5:30pm-6:45pm. Stays: Hotel Landmark ₹2000-3500/night, MTDC Resort ₹1800-3000/night, Hapus-farmstays Lanja-Pawas ₹1500-3000/night with orchard tours bundled. Eat indoors at Hotel Vihar Deluxe with sol kadhi. Konkan Railway Mumbai-Ratnagiri 5-6 hours ₹250-600 sleeper — easier than the 8-hour drive. The structurally-right April trip is mango-focused with sightseeing as side-quest.
