Barren Island in October
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India
Post-monsoon swells make boat access unreliable and sea conditions hazardous
Barren Island in October is the slow re-open. Rainfall drops to 130-180mm in the first two weeks, Andaman Sea swell settles to 1.5-2 metres late in the month. The Forest Department reopens its tourism permit window on October 30. None of the live-aboard operators run charters within October itself - Lacadives, Barefoot Dive, and Dive India schedule their first sailings for November 1-3, taking the lead time to clear permits and crew. Underwater visibility at the volcano sites recovers through the month from 15 to 25 metres. October is therefore useful only as the booking window for November charters; for an actual dive-cruise visit, the next workable month is November.
