Barren Island in June is closed entirely. The southwest monsoon delivers 4-6 metre swell across the 135km crossing route, every live-aboard operator has shut Barren charters since early May, and the Forest Department's tourism permit window is closed from May 15 to October 30. There is no legal or safe way to reach the volcano this month - the cone exclusion zone is enforced by the Coast Guard. The dive sites at Volcano Wall and Manta Point have zero visibility through the monsoon as the upwelling kicks in. Even research vessels avoid the route except for emergencies. The next functional Barren window is November.
