Tribal communities that welcome visitors on their own terms — the Apatani in Ziro, the Bonda in Odisha (with caveats), the Konyak in Mon, the Toda in the Nilgiris. Each entry includes the appropriate permit and the ethical gating.
Visit on community-published dates; don't show up unannounced. Pay direct to the host community, not via intermediaries. Photograph people only with explicit consent — the answer in many tribal communities is genuinely no, regardless of price offered.
