June is peak Sonamarg — 8-22°C, the meadow in full bloom, the Thajiwas Glacier accessible, the Sindh River valley dramatically green against snow-capped peaks. Zoji La opens for civilian traffic (connecting to Kargil/Leh). The Amarnath Yatra staging begins in late June. Tourist camps are at full capacity. Pony rides to Thajiwas are the standard activity (₹500-1,000 return). The meadow justifies every superlative.

कहाँ खाएँ

  • The Villa Himalaya Restaurant

    Kullan Village · ₹₹₹

    सिग्नेचरpan-seared Kashmir trout

Trout has to be ordered an hour in advance — they fillet to order, not from a fridge. Bonfire dinners are seasonal; ask when you book. The riverside terrace at lunch is the move, not the dining room.

  • Lolabi Kashmiri Wazwan

    Main Bazaar · ₹₹

    सिग्नेचरmutton rogan josh

A full traditional wazwan tray is pre-order only — call a day ahead. Walk-ins should order the rista with steamed rice; locals call it the meal that decides whether a Sonamarg restaurant is real or for show.

  • JKTDC Hotel Kongposh Restaurant

    Main Bazaar · ₹

    सिग्नेचरegg curry with paratha

Breakfast is the smartest meal here — paratha and egg curry, served in 10 minutes flat. Closed during the Zoji-La winter shutdown (Dec-April) like most of the bazaar; reopens with the road.

  • Hotel Glacier Heights Restaurant

    Main Bazaar · ₹₹

    सिग्नेचरmutton yakhni

Ask for the Kashmiri pulao with mutton yakhni rather than the generic veg thali — it's where the kitchen actually cooks. Reserve the window table on the upper floor for a Thajiwas-side view.
