Fair at Surkanda Devi Temple (3,030m) near Kanatal with devotees trekking 2 km to the summit temple, offering bells and red cloth to the goddess.

June starts warm and shifts to monsoon around June 20th. Pre-monsoon Kanatal is humid but functional. Once the rains hit, the camping season effectively ends, the forest trails become slippery and leech-infested, and the hamlet returns to its resident population of maybe 200 people. The transformation from May's bustle to late June's emptiness is dramatic.

This is the only à-la-carte Garhwali experience inside the resort — book it the night before through the front desk, not the buffet. Ingredient substitutions happen when authentic items run out, so ask what's on the day's menu.

Ask for the Garhwali thali off-menu — they cook it on demand with mandua roti and gahat dal when ingredients are in stock. Don't expect the South Indian section unless you call ahead.

Visit in October-November when the orchard's fruit is in season — the kitchen runs fresh kiwi juice and apple desserts only during those weeks. The grounds are walkable while you wait for food.

Day visitors must call ahead — the kitchen plans portions per booked tent. The bonfire-bbq slot (7-9pm) is the only meal worth driving up for solo; lunch is package-quality.
