The monsoon arrives like a wall. Rain hammers Pelling daily, turning trails to mud rivers and wrapping Kanchenjunga in an impenetrable grey shroud for weeks at a stretch. Leeches emerge on every forest path. The Skywalk looks out at nothing but cloud.
