October (Kartik Amavasya / Diwali) · Chitrakoot
Thousands of oil lamps lit along the ghats of Mandakini River at Ram Ghat, recreating the scene of Lord Ram's return to Ayodhya as described in the Ramcharitmanas.

October brings festival season to Chitrakoot. Navratri and Dussehra transform the temple town — nine nights of devotion, culminating in Ram's victory celebration at the place of his exile. The irony is not lost on devotees. Temperatures: 22-34°C, rain gone, skies clear.

Temple trust dharamshala right on the ghat. Basic rooms but you wake up to the sound of the Mandakini river and temple bells. ₹200-400 per night. Bring your own towel.
