Silent Valley in July is the year's wettest stretch and the park remains closed under Kerala Forest Department seasonal safety rule. The single legitimate reason to be in the Palakkad-Mannarkkad belt during July is Karkidakam — the Malayalam calendar's monsoon-Ayurveda month (mid-July to mid-August). Karkidaka Chikitsa packages (14-21 days) at established Ayurveda centres in Palakkad town and Mannarkkad discount 30-40 percent for the season-residency trade. For the standard Silent Valley primate-watching trip, wait for October — trail permits reissue then under the Forest Department's standard October 1 reopening.
