Atal Tunnel stays open year-round, so Lahaul-Spiti access is technically possible, but conditions beyond the tunnel are severe. This is not a beach-holiday replacement. Pack thermals, waterproof boots, and patience.

The Manu Temple area near Old Manali gets quiet enough to hear the Beas River beneath the ice edges. Evenings die early — most restaurants close by 9 PM, and you'll want to be indoors by then anyway. Room rates drop 40-50% from peak season, making January one of the cheapest months to visit. Hot water reliability varies by guesthouse — confirm before booking. The Manali-Leh Highway is completely closed and won't open for months.
