January is one of Kadmat Island's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Island diving and water sports safe October–May with calm seas. Monsoon June–September brings rough waves and dive restrictions.
Kadmat in January is the chain's most accessible diving island. Daytime 24-29C, water 26-28C, dive viz 28-32m, the 8km lagoon (the longest in the cluster) running flat from 6am. Kadmat Beach Resort — 60-odd thatched cottages, mid-budget by chain standards — sits at peak occupancy through the month. The Lacadives dive school (the chain's public-sector dive operation, also the longest-running) operates daily; the open-water four-day course runs continuously. Access is via the SAMUDRAM cruise from Kochi (4-5 day ship-based package, MV Kavaratti or MV Lakshadweep Sea, Kadmat is a standard 1-2 day stop) or by speedboat from Agatti (longer route, 4-5 hours, weather-dependent, only possible Oct-May). There's no airstrip on Kadmat. Permit lead is 30-45 days via lakshadweeptourism.com or bundled with the SAMUDRAM package booking. The single ATM near the jetty stays usable but goes dry by Sunday. BSNL 2G only. Carry ₹15,000-20,000 cash. Dry island; no alcohol on Kadmat.
