Kavaratti in January is the chain's administrative hub at its most active. Daytime 24-30C, water 26-28C, lagoon viz 25-30m, the 4.2km island running the chain's densest civic infrastructure — UT Administrator's office, Lakshadweep Tourism HQ, the high court, and the Ujra Jamia Mosque (the chain's largest, 17th-century coral-stone construction). Kavaratti Beach Resort and the SPORTS-administered cottages handle most of the tourist accommodation; both book out 30-45 days ahead. The Marine Aquarium (open 9am-5pm Tuesday to Sunday) and Marine Museum are fully staffed. Access is via the SAMUDRAM cruise from Kochi (4-5 day package, MV Kavaratti or MV Lakshadweep Sea, Kavaratti is the chain's primary stop) or by inter-island ferry from Agatti (4-5 hours, weather-dependent). No airstrip on Kavaratti — flights land at Agatti only. The single ATM works but goes dry by Sunday. BSNL 2G; no Jio or Airtel. Carry ₹20,000 cash. Dry island; alcohol on Bangaram only. Friday 12-2pm: mosques close to non-Muslim visitors.
