Caution
Delhi in August
Delhi, India
August sustains monsoon at 200-250mm. Independence Day (August 15) at Red Fort — where the PM addresses the nation — is Delhi's most significant annual event. Krishna Janmashtami (usually August) fills ISKCON temple, Mathura road temples, and neighbourhoods across the city with midnight celebrations.
The August story
Independence Day at Red Fort is ticketed and spectacular — if you cannot attend, watching from the perimeter as the tricolour is raised and the PM speaks is still powerful. The rest of August Delhi is monsoon-green and humid but culturally rich. The Yamuna floods (dramatically, photographically, but also destructively for riverside communities). The Dilli Haat crafts bazaar (₹30 entry) is comfortable under its covered walkways during rain. Janmashtami midnight at ISKCON or Birla Mandir, with thousands of devotees, drummers, and butter-smearing rituals, is among Delhi's most electric religious experiences. Rooms: ₹1,500-10,000/night.
