Early morning at the fort is actually spectacular in April — the rising sun hitting the Vijay Stambha from the east creates long shadows that reveal carving details invisible in flat midday light. The light-and-sound show (7:30pm) is more enjoyable now that evenings warm to 28°C rather than January's 12°C. The drive from Udaipur (112 km) passes through Rajasthan countryside turning golden-brown, and the fort appearing on its hill from a distance is always dramatic.
