Peak Season
Chamba in April
Himachal Pradesh, India
April is Chamba's sweet spot. Temperatures hit 22-28°C, wildflowers carpet the surrounding hills, and the town finds its rhythm between winter quiet and summer bustle. The Sui Mata fair (usually early April) fills the Chaugan with colour, music, and a procession that has not changed in centuries.
The April story
The Sui Mata fair is genuinely special — not a tourist event but a living tradition where women carry decorated grass bundles to the Ravi in memory of Rani Sui, who sacrificed herself to bring water to Chamba. It is moving in a way that staged festivals never are. Beyond the fair, April opens the Saho and Tundah valleys for gentle treks through Gaddi shepherd territory. Khajjiar meadow peaks now — the grass impossibly green against deodar walls. Evening walks along the Ravi are warm enough for shirtsleeves. Rooms: ₹1,200-2,500/night.
