Alibaug in July
Maharashtra, India
Skip July — peak monsoon shuts Alibaug entirely, beach fatalities every year, no operational tourism.
July is peak monsoon Alibaug — and that means total tourism shutdown. The M2M Mandwa-Gateway ferry has been suspended since Apr 30, the Arabian Sea throws 4-5m swell at the harbour mouth, beaches across the 25km strip from Mandwa to Nagaon and onward to Kashid are red-flagged daily, and the Konkan corridor NH-66 floods regularly at Apta junction and the Pen-Roha stretch. Kolaba Fort is inaccessible — both the low-tide walk and the boatman route are off, the fort itself unmaintained for the monsoon. Heritage stays sit on skeleton staffing or close fully. There's no operational tourism in Alibaug in July.
The July story
No July Alibaug visit makes sense. Beach safety is the headline risk: every monsoon, Kashid and Murud beaches log drownings as out-of-towners ignore red-flags. If you're committed to Konkan in July: redirect to Amboli (monsoon waterfalls peak Jul-Aug — Hiranyakeshi, Nangarta, Shirgaonkar Falls all roaring) or to Kolad (Kundalika white-water rafting at dam-release peak). If you must be in Mumbai: stay in the city, accept Elephanta and Alibaug are both off. The Alibaug experience that travellers come for — Kolaba Fort low-tide walk, M2M ferry, Versoli/Akshi/Nagaon beach time, Kihim heritage homestay sunset on the sand — requires October-February. July is structurally wrong on every metric. Set a calendar reminder for the MMB September ferry-restart notice.
