Alibaug in August
Maharashtra, India
Skip August — monsoon shutdown continues, ferry-restart not until mid-September minimum.
August continues the Alibaug shutdown. The M2M Mandwa-Gateway ferry has been off since Apr 30, the Arabian Sea swell stays at 3-4m, beaches are red-flagged across the 25km strip, and Kolaba Fort is inaccessible. Monsoon rainfall through the month adds another 600-800mm, NH-66 Konkan corridor floods at Apta and Pen-Roha continue, and heritage homestays at Kihim, Mandwa and Alibaug town close or run on skeleton staff. Independence Day (Aug 15) brings no tourism revival — the rain doesn't care. Ferry-restart not expected until Sep 15 at the earliest.
The August story
August is not for Alibaug travel. The fundamental experience — Kolaba Fort low-tide walk, M2M ferry, beach time at Versoli or Akshi, Kihim heritage sunset — needs October-February conditions. If you're committed to Konkan in August: pivot to Amboli (monsoon waterfalls at peak — see Amboli notes for Jul-Aug specifics) or to Kolad rafting on the Kundalika. If you're Mumbai-based and need a weekend break: skip the Konkan drive entirely, the NH-66 corridor is unreliable, and a Mumbai-internal heritage and food weekend works better. Plan the Alibaug trip for an October-February window. Reserve M2M ferry car-slots and heritage stays 2-3 weeks ahead for weekends in peak. The August Alibaug version simply doesn't exist.
