Ajmer in May
Rajasthan, India
May is brutal — 42-45°C regularly, sometimes higher. Ajmer empties of casual visitors. The Dargah still operates, devotees still come, but the city feels like it's holding its breath, waiting for rain that won't arrive for another month.
The May story
May tests your commitment. The Dargah still draws the faithful — Sufi devotion doesn't check the weather forecast. If your purpose is spiritual, the heat becomes part of the pilgrimage. The shrine provides free cold water (sabeel) to visitors. Evening hours, from 6-10pm, are the only comfortable window. Pushkar is a ghost town for tourists but locals still worship at Brahma Temple daily. Hotel prices hit their annual floor. The only practical reason for a May visit is if Urs falls this month — in which case, the heat becomes irrelevant next to half a million devotees, spectacular qawwali marathons, and the langar feeding thousands nightly.
