Caution
Ajmer in August
Rajasthan, India
August is peak monsoon — heavy, humid, and occasionally flooded. The Dargah area can waterlog during downpours. But the surrounding Aravallis are spectacular — waterfalls appear on hills that were bone-dry two months ago. Independence Day (Aug 15) brings patriotic energy.
The August story
August is a gamble. Good days give you Ajmer at its greenest — the Taragarh Fort hike offers views of an impossibly verdant Aravalli landscape. The Dargah's evening atmosphere, with rain-cooled air and candle-lit chambers, can be transcendent. Bad days mean waterlogged streets, cancelled plans, and humidity that makes breathing feel like drinking. The Urs festival sometimes falls in August — if it does, the monsoon adds a dramatic backdrop to the celebration. Street food peaks: kachori, pyaaz ki kachori, and mawa kachori from Ajmer's legendary shops taste best in this weather. Come if you're flexible. Avoid if you need reliable plans.
