# Best Time to Visit Sikkim

Sikkim is open year-round but the experience varies dramatically. Monsoon closes roads. Winter closes high passes. Spring brings rhododendrons. Here is every month scored.

The Verdict

March-May (Spring): 5/5 — Rhododendrons bloom at 3,000m+. Kanchenjunga visible. Roads open. Yumthang Valley flowers. The best season.

June: 3/5 — Pre-monsoon. Warm but increasingly cloudy. Last window before rains.

July-September (Monsoon): 1/5 — Landslides close NH10 regularly. Nathu La closed. Tsomgo Lake inaccessible. Avoid.

October-November: 5/5 — Post-monsoon clarity. Festival season (Dashain, Tihar). Kanchenjunga crystal clear. Best trekking.

December-February (Winter): 3/5 — Cold but stunning. Snow above 3,000m. Nathu La closed. Gangtok accessible. Pelling views excellent on clear days.

Key Routes

Gangtok: Year-round. Pelling: March-May, Oct-Nov. North Sikkim (Lachung, Yumthang): March-June, Oct-Nov only. Tsomgo/Nathu La: March-June, Sept-Nov.
