Dubdi Monastery.
No road access — 3km of stone steps and forest trail above the Norbugang side of the village. Trekkers heading to Dzongri usually skip it; day-trippers from Pelling rarely make the climb.WHY NOBODY KNOWS
Established in 1701 by Chogyal Namgyal, this is the oldest monastery in Sikkim — the name means 'the retreat'. Two storeys, six monks in residence, mural panels of the Nyingma lineage in pigments that haven't been retouched. The clearing in front looks straight onto the Kanchenjunga ridge.
