Somnath in January
Gujarat, India
Go — peak Char Dham window with cool coastal weather and dry temple days.
Peak crowds
January is one of Somnath's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Jyotirlinga pilgrimage coastal temple busiest Nov–Feb during cool season and winter breaks; summer heat May–Jun is slowest.
January is Somnath's peak window — cool 16-29C Arabian Sea coastal weather, dry Jyotirlinga darshan days, and the Triveni Sangam ghat ghat-walks comfortable from dawn to sunset. The temple's sound-and-light show running nightly is bookable without queue.
The January story
The Jyotirlinga is the first of 12 — rebuilt 17 times across 2,000 years and now anchored on the Arabian Sea since 1951 (Patel's rebuild). January gives the temple, the Triveni Sangam (Hiran-Kapila-Saraswati confluence into the sea), the Bhalka Tirth (Krishna death site 5km away) and the Veraval-Diu coastal corridor all in one cool, dry window. The sunset aarti on the seafront is the photographic anchor. Cheap winter flights to Diu connect for travellers combining Somnath with the Portuguese coastal stop.
