Somnath in October
Gujarat, India
Go — peak window opens, monsoon clears, full-day temple comfort returns.
October is Somnath's opening month — the monsoon retreats by the first week, the seafront cleans up, and the Char Dham circuit reactivates. Coastal Saurashtra hits the 24-33C sweet spot, Jyotirlinga darshan returns to peak comfort, and the November-February peak draws closer.
The October story
October is the year's second-best month for Somnath after November-December — air is dry, sea calms, sunset aartis run their classic colour palette, and the temple's seafront atmosphere returns. Char Dham circuits that booked early get the cleanest experience before the December-January pilgrim wave crowds the queues. The Bhalka and Triveni circuits are at their fresh post-monsoon best, with green still on the inland approach. Combine with Gir National Park reopening on Oct 15 — Saurashtra coast plus lion-country in a single 5-day loop becomes feasible from mid-October.
