Rajkot in January
Gujarat, India
Go — peak Kathiawadi food season, Gandhi heritage walks, and Uttarayan kite festival.
Peak crowds
January is one of Rajkot's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Gujarat city sees winter tourism Nov–Feb; peak summer May–Jun is extremely hot with minimal tourist footfall.
January is Rajkot at its food-and-heritage best — 12-27°C cool dry days, the Saurashtra commercial hub running at full holiday rhythm, and Kaba Gandhi No Delo (Gandhi's primary family home 1881-1915) walkable in pleasant winter light. Uttarayan on Wed Jan 14 2026 turns Race Course rooftops into a kite-flying corridor.
The January story
Plan two-to-three days. Day 1 Kaba Gandhi No Delo (the 9-room Saurashtrian haveli where Mahatma Gandhi spent 1881-1887, 09:00-12:00 / 15:00-18:00, free) + Watson Museum at Jubilee Garden (1888 colonial museum with Harappan-era pottery, Mughal miniatures and Queen Victoria statue, closed Wed and 2nd/4th Sat) + Aji Dam reservoir at sunset. Day 2 Rajkot food trail — The Grand Thakar Kathiawadi thali for lunch (Saurashtra-style with garlic chutney and bajra rotla), Sai Ghasitaram Halwai for Rajkot peda, evening Havmor for chole kulcha. Day 3 day-trip to Khambhalida Buddhist Caves (70km, 4th-6th century rock-cut chaityas) + Wankaner Palace (50km, royal residences and 1939 Art Deco swimming pool). The Imperial Palace (Rajkot's only 5-star) at peak booking. Uttarayan rooftops Jan 14.
