Sasan Gir in April
Gujarat, India
Go for photographers — heat compresses to morning only but lion sightings peak.
April at Sasan Gir is paradoxical — peak heat at 25-40C means safaris compress to 6-9am morning slots, but lion sightings reach near-guaranteed reliability as the entire pride converges on the surviving waterholes. Heat-tolerant wildlife photographers consider April the peak.
The April story
April is when Sasan's Asiatic lion concentration story tells itself in full — the dry deciduous forest is parched, waterholes have shrunk to a handful of locations, lions have no choice but to use them. Morning safaris deliver near-guaranteed sightings. The trade-off is heat: 40C by 10am, afternoon safaris reduced to cooler days only. Lodges run pool-and-AC rest packages between safaris. Aramness (luxury boutique) maintains its full safari + spa programme; Asiatic Lion Lodge (mid-range) compresses to morning-only. The Maldhari nesses operate but with reduced visitor flow. The Tulsi Shyam hot springs visit shifts to dawn only. Reschedule any non-safari activity to dawn or evening.
