Peak crowds
June is one of Kaza's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. High-altitude Spiti valley only accessible Jun–Sep when snow clears; winter (Dec–Mar) roads closed; monsoon peaks Jul–Aug with clear skies.
June at Kaza is the proper start of the Spiti peak season. Daytime 18-22C, nights 4-8C, monthly rainfall under 30mm — the Spiti plateau is rain-shadowed even when the Manali side is in full monsoon. Both road approaches at full reliability: Manali-Atal Tunnel-Gramphu-Batal-Kunzum (~210km, 9-10 hours) and Shimla-Reckong Peo-Kaza (~410km, 2 days with overnight at Reckong Peo). Chandratal opens for tent-camp visits from June 15. Key Monastery, Tabo, Dhankar, Komic, Hikkim, Langza, Pin Valley all at full season. Hotel Sakya (₹3,500-5,000), Deyzor (₹3,000), Spiti Sarai (₹4,500), Norling Guest House and Sakya Abode all running; book 2 weeks ahead minimum. Sol Café, Yak Café and Himalayan Café are the year's active food scene. SBI ATM still unreliable — carry minimum ₹15,000 cash from Manali or Reckong Peo. Dry-day pattern (1st and 15th of each month at the local liquor vend) applies. BSNL/Jio stable in Kaza. Acclimatise overnight at Manali (2,050m) or Reckong Peo (2,290m) before driving up.
