Karla & Bhaja Caves in September
Maharashtra, India
September is the monsoon tail. Rain tapers from Sep 15 onward; Karla and Bhaja waterfalls reduce in flow week by week, with the largest cascades drying up by month-end. The hillsides stay full green through October. Sahyadri air is washed clean. Daytime 24-28C in early month, climbing to 26-30C by month-end. Ganesh Chaturthi falls Sep 12 2026 — Lonavala temples and the Ekvira Devi shrine at Karla run Ganeshotsav observances Sep 12-22, drawing Maharashtrian devotional weekend traffic. The cave complex itself stays calm of pilgrims but Lonavala chikki shops are busy through the festival window. The 350-step Karla climb is back to dry-grip safety from Sep 20 onward. Mid-month is the inflection — committing too early gets you tail-end rain, too late misses the waterfall finale.
