Hemkund Sahib in September
Uttarakhand, India
Peak crowds
September is one of Hemkund Sahib's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Gurudwara opens June–September; pilgrims visit during these open months. Closed by snow October–May.
September at Hemkund Sahib is the post-monsoon recovery and arguably the year's best window. Monthly rainfall drops to 100-150mm, mostly first fortnight. Daytime at the shrine 10-15C, nights 2-5C; at Ghangaria daytime 14-18C, nights 4-7C. Helicopter weather cancellations drop to 5-10 percent from mid-September onwards. Trail dries out by September 20; leeches gone. The Hemkund star-shaped sarovar shows its cleanest reflection of the Saptarishi peaks (the seven-peak ring around the lake basin) in late September. Pilgrim flow heavy through the first three weeks (40-50k cumulative), tapering in the last week. Ghangaria gurdwara dharamshala, GMVN tents, private lodges at 80-90 percent occupancy through mid-September. Valley of Flowers still in late bloom through the first 10 days. Helicopter ₹10,080 round-trip Govindghat-Ghangaria. Pony service ₹2,500-3,500. Yatra Registration mandatory. Strong call for pilgrims wanting peak conditions before the season's October 10 close.
