Har Ki Doon in October
Uttarakhand, India
Peak crowds
October is one of Har Ki Doon's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Himalayan trek peak May–Jun for summer crowds and Sep–Oct for clear autumn conditions; winter is snowbound.
October at Har-Ki-Doon is the year's most coherent window for the trek. Daytime at Sankri 16-20C, nights 4-8C; at the meadow campsite daytime 13-17C, nights -2 to 3C. Monthly rainfall under 25mm. Autumn colour peaks across the trail — Birch, Maple, the alpine meadow grasses — through the first three weeks. Glacier views of Swargarohini I-IV, Black Peak, Hata Peak at maximum clarity (post-monsoon clean air, no haze). Operators (Indiahikes, Bikat, Himalayan Hikers, Trek The Himalayas, Trekup India) run peak October departures; book 3-4 weeks ahead. Sankri GMVN guesthouse and private lodge grid at 80-90 percent occupancy. The standard 4-day itinerary is at its most rewarding in October. Govind NP fee ₹150+₹100. Carry warm layers (3-5C night gear), trekking poles. Daily distances 9-12km, moderate difficulty. The trail through Osla and the Govind NP check post is at its driest of any post-summer month. Strong call for first-time trekkers wanting the cleanest experience.
