If circumstances force, schedule Buddha Purnima May 26 with sunrise arrival (gate 7am, in Cave 10 Vishwakarma chaitya by 7:30am, off-site by 9am, AC car back to Aurangabad). Avoid Kailasa courtyard entirely in May — sun-trap design makes noon-3pm life-threatening. The painted-mural interiors are not at Ellora (those are at Ajanta) — Ellora is sculpted basalt, less torch-dependent, but the experience still relies on outdoor walking which May prohibits. Aurangabad hotels at deep summer rates — Vivanta, Welcomhotel, Lemon Tree, Ginger all booking easy. Heritage tourism shuts down; locals at indoor weddings and AC malls. The smart play: reschedule for Oct-Feb when Kailasa courtyard golden-hour light matches the temple's grandeur. Photography: May heat-haze makes long Kailasa facade shots unusable.
