Chidiya Tapu in August
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India
August at Chidiya Tapu is July with marginally fewer wet days. Rainfall settles to 390-430mm across 22-24 wet days. NH-223 South gets minor reprieves between rains - the road is sometimes drivable - but the surface is broken in stretches and the drive that takes 50 minutes in January takes 2 hours when it works at all. The Mundapahad trail remains muddy and leech-thick; the Forest Department reopens it intermittently between major rain events. The sunset point is cloudbound 28 days out of 31. Birding is technically interesting (resident species are active in the rain) but hidden beneath the canopy and the trip becomes an exercise in patience without payoff. Wait for November.
