Bangaram Island in January
Lakshadweep, India
Go in January—peak season means calm seas, maximum visibility for diving, and the resort at full capacity with reliably good service.
Peak crowds
January is one of Bangaram Island's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Resort island busiest Nov–Mar during school holidays and cool season; monsoon swells make sea access risky Jun–Sep.
Bangaram in January is the closest the Indian archipelago gets to the Maldives template. Daytime 24-29C, water 27-28C, lagoon viz 32-35m, the western reef wall running 35m verticals at 18m depth. The CGH Earth-managed Bangaram Island Resort (50-odd thatched-roof cottages, no televisions, restored 2024 after long closure) holds the entire visitor capacity — there are no homestays, no SPORTS huts, no alternatives, the island is uninhabited beyond the resort. Access is the 30-minute speedboat from Agatti jetty (₹2,500-3,000 round-trip, scheduled around the Alliance Air arrivals). Bangaram is the only Lakshadweep island where alcohol is legal — the resort bar opens 11am to 11pm, and guests cannot bring liquor onto Agatti or any other inhabited island in the chain on day-trips. The dive centre at the resort runs the Bangaram drop-off, Manta Point (turtle and ray encounters likely December-March), and night-dive options. Cash needs are minimal — the resort bills to the room.
