November is Lucknow's golden month alongside January. Temperatures at 14-28°C are ideal. The air is clear, monuments photograph beautifully, and the city's food scene is in full winter glory. Diwali (if it falls in November) transforms the city with lights along the Gomti. Winter specialties fill every menu.

Clean budget hotel near the railway station and old city food trail. AC rooms, reliable wifi. Not fancy but a solid base for eating your way through Lucknow. The staff knows all the food spots.

The original Akbari Gate shop is the cramped, no-AC heart of the operation; service is fast but seating is bench-style. Cash strongly preferred. Buffalo meat is the default — chicken galouti is on the wider menu but skip mutton on busy nights when turnover is faster on the buffalo lines.

Lunch service is much quieter; book 12:30-3pm for a calmer kitchen pace. The galouti and ulte-tawa paratha pairing is the dish to test the kitchen on.

Open only in afternoons (~12:30pm) and sells out by 4-5pm — call ahead or come early. Limited indoor seating; takeaway is the local norm.

The basket chaat travels poorly — eat in. Sahara Ganj branch on Shahnajaf Road is roomier; the original Mahatma Gandhi Road outlet is more cramped but has the brand's better-rated ratings.
