November is Varanasi's crown jewel month. Dev Deepawali — the festival of a million diyas on the ghats, held on the full moon after Diwali — is the single most spectacular visual event in the city's annual calendar. Temperatures settle at 26°C days and 12°C nights, the air is clear, and the Ganges has receded to reveal the full architectural grandeur of every ghat. This is the month postcards are made from.
