Rann of Kutch in March
Gujarat, India
Wait — Rann Utsav has ended, magic gone. November is the smart restart.
March in the Rann is the close. Rann Utsav has ended February 28, the GTDC Tent City has packed down, daytime climbs to 20-35C, and the white salt desert begins losing its peak winter visual. The destination has effectively wound down for the year.
The March story
March winds down the Rann tourism rhythm. Rann Utsav officially ended February 28, the GTDC Tent City has packed down for the season, and the white salt flat begins its long pre-monsoon decline as the salt-flat sheen dulls under the warming sun. Daytime temperatures climb to 20-35C with strong desert sun and no shade on the open flat. The Kala Dungar viewpoint remains accessible. Hodka Shaam-e-Sarhad and Rann Riders at Dasada remain open year-round but at reduced operational tempo. Photographers can still catch the salt flat in the first half of the month but the magic of full-moon white-desert nights has gone with the festival. Hotel rates outside Tent City fall significantly. If you must travel to the Rann in March, the strategy is: stay at Hodka village (Banni grasslands base, away from the now-empty Dhordo strip), drive to White Rann viewpoint at dawn or sunset only, and accept that the festival energy that makes the destination internationally famous has gone. Wait for November.
