Pushkar in May
Rajasthan, India
May is Pushkar baking. 40-45°C, dry desert heat that cracks lips and drains energy. The sacred lake shrinks. The town hibernates between 11am and 5pm. Only the temple priests and the hardiest travellers remain. Camel milk and lassi become survival tools, not treats. The Thar Desert edge is relentless.
The May story
There is very little reason to visit Pushkar in May unless you are genuinely interested in experiencing Thar Desert edge conditions. The lake can show exposed bed. Temples remain active — priests don't take holidays — but the town is in survival mode. The local economy shifts to agricultural work as mango and melon season peaks in surrounding areas. Hotels bottom out at ₹200-300. If you must be in Rajasthan, Pushkar is at least small enough to navigate between shade patches. Keep water on you at all times.
