Peak Season
Patnitop in February
Jammu & Kashmir, India
February is Patnitop's peak snow month. Snow depth is maximum. Temperatures: -4°C to 6°C. Nathatop meadow is fully operational for snow sports. Weekend traffic from Jammu is heavy. Midweek offers better value and fewer crowds. The pine forests under heavy snow are at their most photogenic.
The February story
February Patnitop is when the snow is deepest and most reliable. The skiing and snowboarding scene, while basic, has improved with local operators offering lessons. Nathatop in February, on a clear day, offers views of the Pir Panjal range that justify the basic facilities. The Sanasar meadow, cupped between hills, is a natural amphitheatre of snow. The Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) runs modest winter sport facilities. For a unique experience, the night walk through Patnitop's pine forest in snow—with just a torch and the sound of snow falling from branches—is magical if you're properly equipped. The highway location means medical facilities in Batote (20 km) are reasonably accessible. February Patnitop is J&K's most democratic snow destination: no expensive flights, no long drives, just snow within reach of the common traveler.
