February is one of Munnar's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Busiest Oct–Feb after monsoon when misty weather and cooler temps drive crowds; monsoon Jun–Aug sees minimal footfall.
February in Munnar is the technical sweet spot for tea-estate photography. Rainfall averages 15-20mm, daytime 19-24C, nights 10-12C. The Kanan Devan Hills tea sweep — KDHP owns roughly 24,000 hectares across the Munnar high range, the largest single tea estate in South India — is at year-best visibility, especially the Lockhart Gap viewline 12km out on the Top Station road. The catch: Eravikulam NP closes February 1 for the mandatory Nilgiri Tahr calving period under Kerala Forest Department rule (closure runs through end-March; published annually on eravikulam.kerala.gov.in). If the trip is built around the tahr-on-grasslands experience, push to mid-November or April-May. Tea Museum at the Nallathanni estate, Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake, Top Station all run unchanged. Hotel rates drop 25-30 percent versus January (the Christmas-NY tail is fully gone): luxury at ₹8-12k, mid-bracket ₹5-7k, homestays ₹2,500-3,500. Anamudi peak (2695m, South India's highest) is permit-only via the Eravikulam authority — closed alongside the NP this month. The 4-hour drive from Kochi airport (NH85, 130km) is at year-clearest visibility. Light woollens for evenings.
