July monsoon hits Kishtwar with 200-300mm of rain. The road from Doda becomes landslide-prone. The Chenab is in full flood — too dangerous for rafting. But the national park's lower trails are accessible between rain events, and monsoon wildlife activity (breeding season, territorial behaviour) actually increases sighting probability for some species. The meadows above Kishtwar town are at peak wildflower bloom — this is alpine Kashmir that mainstream tourism doesn't reach. The town continues its rhythm. For the traveller stranded by road closure (a real possibility), Kishtwar's bazaar, its Hindu-Muslim cultural coexistence, and the stories of local sapphire hunters make for unexpected ethnographic tourism.
