February is one of Hampi's busiest months. The score rates conditions — weather, access, value — not how many people you'll share them with. Hampi Utsav festival (November) has cultural performances at the ruins. Weekdays are quieter.
February in Hampi is the technical peak. Rainfall under 5mm, daytime 30-33C, nights 18-19C, humidity 45 percent — the driest month of the year. The granite boulders that the Vijayanagara architects built around — the same volcanic outcrop that holds Anjeyanadri Hill on the north bank — show year-best photographic light. Matanga Hill (the highest point in the ruin field at 130m above the river plain, 600 steps from the Achyutaraya gate, ~40 min climb) holds the sunrise position over Virupaksha gopuram; arrive 5:45am for 6:30am sunrise. Hemakuta Hill (gentle 10-min walk south of Virupaksha Temple) holds the sunset position with Virupaksha gopuram silhouetted west. Vittala Temple stone chariot — the granite wheels were originally rotating, locked since restoration — at 9am clean light. Achyutaraya Temple, Pushkarni step-well, and the Krishna Bazaar long avenue walk cleanly. Hotels: Evolve Back Kamalapura Palace at ₹22-28k, Hyatt Place ₹12-15k, Heritage Resort ₹6-9k, Hampi Boulders ₹8-12k. Hospet (13km west, main railhead) homestays at ₹1,500-3,000. The Anegundi-side guesthouses (Uramma, Peshegar) ₹2,500-5,000. Lock beds 4-6 weeks ahead.
