June pre-monsoon and early monsoon hit the Dudhwa region. The park remains closed. Temperatures range 34-44°C with humidity climbing sharply. The Terai's transformation from dry to wet begins with the monsoon, usually arriving in the last week.
The June story
Closed. The monsoon transforms Dudhwa from dry grassland to flooded marsh — water levels can rise metres in days. This is critical for the ecosystem (the barasingha need flooded grasslands for their breeding cycle) but dangerous for humans. The Sharda and Mohana rivers that border the park flood their banks. Even the surrounding roads can become impassable. There is genuine ecological beauty in monsoon Terai — but it is not available to tourists.
