Chidiya Tapu in June
Andaman & Nicobar Islands, India
Monsoon flooding makes muddy trails treacherous and many migratory birds have departed
June at Chidiya Tapu is closed in everything but name. Rainfall hits 400-450mm with daily downpours. NH-223 South - the only road to the village - floods at the Manglutan low point within an hour of any heavy rain, and authorities sometimes barricade it. The Mundapahad trail is unwalkable: ankle-deep mud, leeches in concentration, and several stretches with active rockfall under saturated soil. The Biological Park stays technically open but visitor numbers drop to zero. The sunset point is permanently in cloud; visibility through the cover is rarely beyond 200m. Mobile (already patchy here) deteriorates further as towers take rain damage. Wait for October at the earliest.
