Borra Caves in January is the version Eastern Ghats regulars wait the year for. Daytime at the 900m valley sits 18-25C, mornings drop to 10-12C, and the cave interior holds 16C regardless of the season — the limestone temperature buffer that makes this one of the few all-weather attractions in tropical India. The 58501 Kirandul Passenger from Visakhapatnam (06:50 dep, 09:40 Borra Guhalu) is the trip itself: 58 tunnels, the Anantagiri viaduct, Tyda forest stop. Cave entry is ₹60 adults / ₹45 children, phone camera ₹25, video ₹100. APTDC has run electric lighting (63 mercury, sodium-vapour and halogen lamps) since the 1962 installation, and the chambers stay walkable 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm with a 30-minute lunch closure. The 400 descent steps to the main hall are dry in January — they get treacherous after rain. Last train back from Borra: 14:55 (ARK VSKP SPL) or 16:50 (KRDL VSKP).
